World urged to invest in Afghanistan’s stability

Mar 11, 2017 - 15:37

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): China has urged the global fraternity to invest in Afghanistaninfo-icon’s security and boosting the capacity of its forces.

China's deputy permanent representative Wu Haitao, made the appeal during a UN Security Council debate on Afghanistan.

Afghanistan needed to enhance its self-defence capability to better respond to the threats of terrorism, transnational crimes and smuggling, Wu said.

He believed regional countries and groupings like the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation should expand cooperation with the war-torn country.

Promoting national reconciliation process held the key long-term peace in Afghanistan, the diplomat opined.

Wu said: "The international community must fully support an inclusive Afghan-owned and reconciliation process for parties to join peace talks with fruitful results without further delay."

China hoped for the early restoration of peace, security, stability and development in Afghanistan and would make consistent efforts in this regard, he said.
