12 militants killed in Kandahar clash, blasts

Jun 07, 2015 - 15:08

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A dozen Talibaninfo-icon militants have been killed and seven civilians wounded during separate incidents in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Sunday.

Six militants were killed during an operation by security forces in the Shah Walikot district, said Zia Durrani, the provincial police spokesman.

He said the militants were planning to launch attacks on police posts, but police preempted the plot, killing six militants and seizing ammunitions and explosives.

Another six militants were killed in two separate explosions caused by their own bombs in the Maiwand and Arghandab districts. The militants were planting roadside bombs in Maiwand’s Bibank and Arghandab’s Hadera areas, he added.

Separately seven civilians were wounded when two vehicles collided head-on on the Herat-Kandahar highway, the police spokesman said, blaming the collision on reckless driving. Police had shifted the wounded people to hospital.
