China to launch work on Kabul housing scheme

China to launch work on Kabul housing scheme

Mar 16, 2017 - 15:04

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) says China will initiate the first phase of building 10,000 residential flats in Kabul in two months from now.

The first phase includes the construction of 1,400 residential units. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the minister of urban development and the Chinese Ambassador today.

The construction of the 1,400 residential plots will cost more than $75 million. Officials said China had promised assistance to the ministry for the construction of 10,000 flats.

In the first phase of the project, 1,400 flats would be constructed in the Nila Bagh area of Dar-ul-Aman.

Minister Syed Sadat Mansoor Naderi hoped with the implementation of this huge scheme, most people and government officials would get the housing facility.

He added the first phase of the project, costing $75 to $80 million, would be completed in two years. Many people will be provided with job opportunities.

Though the project is being executed by China, yet all workers will be Afghans. He stated the small residential units would have low prices.

According to Naderi, lack of housing facilities is a big problem. There was a need for two million housing units in the capital, he concluded.
