Cruise ship travelling on the rise in China

TIANJIN/BEIJING (Pajhwok): The second largest cruise port located in the north eastern part of China recorded $ 10 million revenue last year with the increase of 60 percent passengers, said Zhengdong Zhang, General Manager of Tianjin International Cruise Terminal (TICT).

He told to the visiting media delegation comprising of South Asian and South East Asian countries that TICT would extend additional best services to the passengers for attracting more passengers in the coming years.

He said that in addition to the usual Korea, Japan and Taiwan itineraries, TICT is exploring Russian, Philippines and South East Asian cruise routes.

The port is also implementing an “independent cruise traveler clearance system.” Which is helping the passengers to get board as they arrive, he went on saying.

Zhang added TICT has 142 cruise ships in operational providing the comfortable travelling and facilities to the passengers. $1 billion was the amount spent for development on each cruise ships being used by TICT carrying passengers towards local and international destinations.

It has total planned area of 1.2 million square meters, a planned coast line of 1,600 meters and 6 planned large international cruise berths, he told media men.

Zhang recalled, in 2016 TICT saw the reception of more than 100 international luxury ships, which was the largest number since its establishment as it grew 50 percent year on year and reached a record high.

He also briefed that cruise ships started travelling from TICT made 142 travels for seven hundred and ten thousand passengers towards different destinations last year.

He informed that one of the cruise ships from TICT also travelled towards South Pacific in 46 days which was a success for our expected destinations in the future.

As per the available information, the second busiest cruise port, Tianjin, saw 128 cruise calls and 357,831 passengers, 14.3percent and 16.3percent of market share, respectively in 2016.

He also said that prominent international cruise companies, including Sapphire Princess, Holland America, Volemdam, Celebrity Millennium, and Seven Seas Voyager docked at TICT and it is the worldinfo-icon’s third largest port by cargo volume, located 170 km southeast of Beijing, and 180 km from Beijing Capital International Airport.

He said that right now only one domestic route is operational towards Dalian from Tianjin which takes 10 hours to reach at its destination.

“We have been adopting efficient marketing and promotional techniques for attracting more passengers to be a part of travel by sea towards their favorite destinations,” he noted.

Zhang told as per the reports 10 million passengers will be traveling by cruise ships in China towards their destinations and it is their target to grab 20 % passengers from the total.

He also shared an interesting information by stating that 60 to 70 percent passengers were students who travel by cruise ships with their parents in their vocations and they have indefinite love to enjoy the voyage of sea.
