QALAT (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead the deputy chief of the Ulama Council for southern Zabul province on Sunday morning, officials said.

Mohammad Jawadi, the Shah Joi district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News Mulavi Abdul Hakim Hekmat was gunned down early in the morning.

“The victim's body was found in Bara Khan area by the security forces,” he said, adding no one had been arrested in connection with the murder so far.

Provincial council chief Atta Jan Haqbayan also confirmed the shooting. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

However, Mulavi Hekmat always criticised Pakistaninfo-icon in his interaction with media for all ills of Afghanistaninfo-icon.
