13 rebels suffer casualties in Kunduz operation

KUNDUZ/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Local security officials on Tuesday said 13 militants have suffered casualties and a number of weapons and explosives seized in northeastern Kunduz and southern Helmand province.

A security official who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan Special Forces conducted an operation in Sajani area of the capital of Kunduz on Monday night.

He said 13 militants suffered casualties and a Humvee vehicle, a ranger pick-up, 10 cans of explosives, a number of suicide vests and 12 computers seized during the operation.

However, he did not provide exact figures of those injured or killed in the operation.

According to another report, a depot of weapons belonging to militants discovered in Helmand province.

Lt. Col. Mohammad Rassol Zazai, the spokesman for 215th Maiwand Military Corps in Helmand, said the depot was discovered during an operation of Afghan commando forces in Greshk district on Monday night.

He said nine pistols, 14 different weapons, three machineguns, 11,000 bullets of M4 and 100 bullets of M240 machineguns and some other ammunition were seized from the depot.

A statement from governor’s house also confirmed the operation.

Talibaninfo-icon militants did not comment yet on the issue.
